Citizen Group Launches 'Fiber For Our Future'

First Meeting to be held on January 25th, 1:00pm

Batavia, January 23rd -- The newly formed Tri-City broadband advocacy group, Fiber For Our Future, announced today that it will hold its first meeting on Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m., on the 2nd Floor of 100 North Island Avenue in Batavia.

At the meeting, the group composed of residents and business owners from St. Charles, Geneva, and Batavia, will take the first step in creating the foundation to communicate the necessity for a locally owned fiber optic system that will serve all three cities.

"We're banding together for broadband," said Marion Jacobson, one of the group's leaders. "We strongly believe the residents and businesses of the Tri-Cities will suffer severe damage by being left behind, if we do not take the necessary steps to install this state-of-the-art technology now. Broadband will enable our communities' businesses to expand, our schools to remain among the nation's best, and all of our residents to have the best phone, TV, and Internet access available. At prices they can afford."

Recently, the City Councils of St. Charles and Geneva approved holding a referendum on the subject of broadband. But people need to understand the issues so they can make an informed choice. "That's where our role comes in," Collins said. "We will be preparing and distributing information in clear, easy-to-understand language to assist everybody in our community to understand what they will be asked to vote for."

"We will demonstrate the great value and the need of fiber optic technology for everybody in St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia", said Wolfgang Gruener, Public Relations Manager for Fiber For Our Future. "This technology will be a tremendous asset to business development, education, community services and much more which ultimately will benefit every single resident and business in the Tri-cities area."

Fiber of our Future encourages citizens throughout the Tri-Cities to join an open discussion about this exciting opportunity we will be able to vote for.

We invite everyone who is interested in improving the quality of life in the Tri-Cities area to attend the Saturday meeting. We invite all citizens to participate in educating themselves and our communities about this amazing opportunity.
